Magic Jack - The Cure for Huge Phone Bills

My friend called me about a month ago and told me that he was talking to me on his new Magic Jack phone line. I then asked, “What the heck is Magic Jack?”

Magic Jack is a phone service that only costs $20 a year. Well, actually $19.95 a year. Yes, that’s right, $19.95 a year for local and long distance phone service. With it comes voice mail, call waiting, caller ID and directory assistance. Does it get any better than that?

Well, here’s the scoop. Magic Jack works by using your computer’s high-speed internet connection. You go to the Magic Jack website and order the telephone adapter. When you receive it you plug the adapter into an available USB port on your computer. You plug your phone into the adapter; register your Magic Jack and viola…you’re in business.

It also has a cool user interface so that you can make calls from your computer using a headphone set.

The one drawback about using Magic Jack is that you’ve got to keep your computer on in order to make and receive calls. But, if you use it as a second line in the house, that might not be such a problem.

One of the upsides to it is if you use Magic Jack with a laptop, you can carry your phone with you wherever you go. If you go out of state on vacation, you can take your home phone with you (not that you would want to, but the option is there).

I thought it was so cool (and cheap) that I bought one.
