Volunteering, the New Cool Thing to Do

Our new President, Barack Obama, has made volunteering cool! Imagine that? It’s now cool to do community service. You don’t have to mumble when you tell people where you’re going for fear that they may find you uncool. You can now boldly proclaim that you have signed up with USAservice.org and you volunteer to help America become a better America.

USAService.org is a site set up by the government to make it easy for you and me to find places to volunteer. Most people want to help, but many of us don’t know what to do or where to go.

When in doubt, visit the website, search for opportunities to be of service. Does it get any easier than that? You can signup to receive emails of new opportunities or you can visit the site when the mood hits. Either way, no more excuses about not knowing where to go or what to do.

On the cool-o-meter scale, volunteering is cool, but I’ve got to say, our new President is off the charts cool!

A Cool Product for Staying Warm

Here’s a product that is not fancy, sexy or even very popular (compared to an iPod or Blackberry). It is, however, a very necessary item if you are living in an area where the temperatures fall below freezing. When I say below freezing, I’m not talking about 31 degrees. I’m talking about the below zero type of freezing.

What I’m talking about is the DeLonghi self-contained oil heater. I ended up buying a heater because I misread my oil gauge. I thought I had less oil than I did, so I went into strict conservation mode. I thought that I had better prepare myself for the cold so I ran out and bought the DeLonghi heater.

Let me tell you, this little puppy can heat a room. What I like about the DeLonghi heater is that it’s quiet, efficient and produces heat. It’s portable and some models have self-timers and an anti-freeze setting that kicks in when the temperature drops below 44 degrees.

All I have to say is that if you need to warm up a room, quietly, check out the DeLonghi heater. It works.

On the cool-o-meter scale, this one is hot!
